Community and Compassion are Important to Us

As well as providing a place where people can connect and do life, Agora wants to continually serve those who are in need.

Agora Events

There’s a lot more to Agora than comfy couches and great coffee. Tucked in behind the Café is Agora’s event venue. Equipped with full audio visual system, flexible staging, and great catering through Café Agora, it’s the perfect space for a 20-300 person event. Agora Community Trust has intentionally restricted the number of weekly users of the Agora Event venue so that it can be available for as many one-off events as possible. If you are a not-for-profit community group in need of a quality venue at community rates we want to hear from you. Agora Events was established to serve the needs of the community and would love to host your next event. On the other hand, if you are a commercial entity we would also love to serve you as your partnership will enable us to continue to provide an affordable space to other community groups. To check out our rates or a potential booking date you can contact us on 07 847 0356 or email below.

Rahab Ministries

Dropping your loose change in the PINK PIG at Café Agora is helping young girls escape prostitution in Thailand. Bangkok based Rahab Ministries, is sharing the love of Jesus by providing practical help, emotional support, and giving opportunities for education, vocational training and alternative employment to women working in prostitution. Many young women have been freed from slavery to the sex trade and now are safely housed, part of a healthy community, trained in a new trade such as jewellery making or hairdressing and taught English which will improve their chances of securing long-term employment.

Bright Hope World

They do this by focusing on Sustainable Development, Christian Community, and Relief In Crisis. Café Agora partners with Bright Hope World through supporting La Mai Coffee and Rahab Ministries.

La Mai Coffee

Every cup of coffee at Café Agora is making a difference. La Mai is an organic, fairly traded coffee that is bringing hope to the people of northern Thailand. Farmers who once grew opium poppies and were central to the drug trade now grow high quality coffee beans instead. La Mai beans are then shipped directly to New Zealand and roasted with care in small batches. This captures the unique regional flavours and produces a great tasting cup of coffee.

You can purchase La Mai Coffee in both 1kg and 200g take home packs. Buy it as whole beans or freshly ground with wholesale profits going back to Thailand to fight child prostitution.

streetWORKS

Started in 2007 by a few Waikato Uni students, streetWORKS is all about serving the local community. Several times each year, streetWORKS, co-ordinates with local community groups to identify needs. Gathering resources from local businesses, churches and community groups, they then grab as many eager volunteers as they can find to spend a Saturday showing kindness to a needy community. In doing so they are cultivating a culture where faith is coupled with deeds and the results are amazing! Wood sheds and pantries are filled, fruit trees planted, murals painted, the elderly entertained…
