July Charity of the Month
- Te Whanau Putahi -
Who They Are
Te Whānau Pūtahi is a Hamilton faith-based integrated urban mission which incorporate a Community Centre, Early Childhood Education and Care Centre and a Community Church.
Established 20 years ago in Hamilton by Hamilton Central Baptist Church, they are engaged in journeying with the community and building relationships to strengthen, encourage and support families practically, emotionally and spiritually.
Working in a low socio-economic community, with children identified by the government as “priority learners or vulnerable children” they take a holistic approach to seeing change in individuals, whānau and the community for today and the future.
What They Do
The Community Centre focuses on a ‘hand-up’ approach, assisting with immediate needs the best they can, while providing counselling and advocacy services, and education in areas like parenting and cooking.
A weekly community meal, afternoon kids club, holiday programs and an annual whānau camp are all run at little to no cost for families along with a weekly church service.
The Childcare Centre partners with whānau to help tamariki to be ‘ready willing & able to learn’. Fully licensed and MOE funded, extra hours, affordable rates and pickup is also available.
How We Are Supporting Them
This month Agora will donate 50 cents from every hot beverage sold to Te Whānau Pūtahi.
With this donation they will be able to fund their weekly community meals, offer 10 extra hours of childcare to families in need, and allow families to attend a holiday camp together this summer.
If you would like to know more or help them serve their community, visit their website or pop in for a visit at 37 Oxford Street, Fairfield.

Compassion & Community
At Agora deeply value compassion and community, and as our way of showing this we created our Charity of the Month programme. Our heart is to not only raise money for these local charities by giving 50 cents of every hot beverage sold, but also raise their profile and to see people connected who may have need for their services, or who are moved to get involved, volunteer or donate themselves. We see it as a privilege that although we can't help everyone personally we can partner with those are on the ground serving those in need - whether financially, physically, emotionally or socially.
If you are part of a local Hamilton charity or not for profit and would like to be considered to be one of our charities of the month please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
